A live string quartet and flute recording session at Artsound Studio Jakarta brings together classical instrumentation, spiritual expression, Afro-inspired rhythms, dance music, and electronic production for an upcoming release scheduled for 2027.

Music production often becomes most exciting when different musical worlds meet. That was the spirit behind a recent recording session at Artsound Studio in Jakarta, where we worked on an upcoming project by Filosofi Teduh, combining the expressive character of live acoustic instruments with the energy of contemporary electronic music.

The project features music written by Frida, a longtime friend of mine, making the session especially meaningful. Beyond the technical process of recording, it was an opportunity to contribute to a musical vision built around spirituality, rhythm, and a contemporary approach to worship music.

A New Direction for Spiritual Music

The song explores a distinctive combination of spiritual and contemporary musical elements. Its foundation is rooted in a worship-oriented message, while its sonic direction incorporates Afro-inspired grooves, dance rhythms, electronic textures, and DJ-influenced production.

This blend creates an interesting musical landscape: the organic warmth of acoustic instruments meets the pulse and atmosphere of modern electronic music.

Live strings can bring depth, movement, and emotional nuance to a production like this. Rather than simply adding orchestral decoration, a string quartet can become an integral part of the arrangement, complementing the rhythmic foundation and enhancing the song’s emotional impact.

The result is a creative meeting point between traditional instrumental performance and contemporary music production.

Recording at Artsound Studio Jakarta

The session took place at Artsound Studio in Jakarta, with two recording stages scheduled throughout the evening.

5:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Flute Recording

The first session focused on flute tracking. The flute adds an expressive acoustic color to the production, offering melodic detail and a contrasting texture alongside the electronic and rhythmic elements.

8:00 PM – 11:00 PM: Live String Quartet Recording

The second session was dedicated to recording the string quartet live. Bringing the quartet together in a recording environment allows the musicians to shape their phrasing, articulation, dynamics, and musical interaction as an ensemble.

Live string recording requires attention to musical balance, ensemble precision, tone, and the way each instrument contributes to the overall arrangement. These details help preserve the natural character of the performance while allowing the strings to sit effectively within a contemporary production.

Recording acoustic instruments for an electronic-based track also requires a clear understanding of how organic performances will interact with programmed rhythms, synthesized sounds, and the wider sonic palette.

Bringing Classical Strings Into Afro, Dance, and Electronic Production

One of the most compelling aspects of this project is the contrast between the string quartet’s acoustic character and the song’s Afro-inspired, dance, and electronic direction.

Strings can provide sustained harmonies, rhythmic accents, melodic responses, and cinematic layers that complement the energy of electronic production. When arranged thoughtfully, these elements can add human expression and musical depth without losing the momentum of a modern dance-oriented track.

This approach reflects a broader creative possibility in contemporary music: classical instruments do not have to remain confined to traditional orchestral settings. They can become part of worship music, electronic productions, crossover arrangements, and genre-blending projects.

For producers and arrangers, the challenge is to make every element serve the song. The goal is not simply to combine different genres, but to create a coherent musical identity in which each sound has a purpose.

A Personal Connection With the Composer

This session was also special because Frida, the composer behind the song, is a longtime friend.

Working on a project by someone you have known for years brings a personal dimension to the recording process. It creates an opportunity to support a creative vision while contributing experience in arranging, instrumental recording, and music production.

Through Filosofi Teduh, this upcoming release brings together a spiritual foundation and a contemporary musical direction, with live acoustic performances playing an important role in shaping its sound.

Looking Ahead to the 2027 Release

The song is planned for release in 2027. Until then, the recording session represents one step in the process of bringing the composition to life through a combination of live musicianship and modern production techniques.

Projects like this demonstrate the versatility of string quartet recording in contemporary music. From orchestral and cinematic arrangements to worship, pop, Afro-inspired music, and electronic dance productions, live strings can help producers explore new textures and expressive possibilities.

For music creators looking for professional instrumental recording in Jakarta, this session is another example of how live acoustic musicians can contribute to productions that cross genres and musical traditions.
