One of the most meaningful projects produced by Chaka Music was “Thy Cross”, a worship song written by Pastor Jake Merril Ibo from Papua, Indonesia.
The project began with a simple WhatsApp voice note. Pastor Jake sent a rough recording of himself singing and playing guitar, presenting the song in its original Indonesian version. His vision was to share the message of the song with a broader international audience, requiring an English adaptation that would preserve both the meaning and emotional depth of the original composition.
Working closely with lyricist and vocalist Ika Rosarie, the adaptation process took place at Chaka Music Studio in Cikini, Jakarta. After several discussions and revisions, the English title “Thy Cross” was selected, reflecting the central theme of faith, sacrifice, and redemption.
Beyond lyric adaptation, Chaka Music was responsible for developing the complete musical arrangement and production. The arrangement was designed to support the song’s worshipful atmosphere while maintaining a contemporary and accessible sound suitable for both local and international congregations.
The production process involved collaboration across multiple locations in Indonesia. Instrumental recording sessions were completed in Jakarta, while vocal recording took place in Bali. The accompanying music video was also filmed in Bali, on a beautiful beach near Nusa Dua, creating a visual setting that complemented the song’s message of hope and devotion.
